Naval Air Station Lemoore, originally commissioned in 1961, is one of the newest air station in the navy. The base consists of 2 parallel runways, which lie approximately 4,600 feet apart. Both runways are 13,500 feet long, making them plenty big enough to launch any type of aircraft. NAS Lemoore is also the Navy’s largest master jet air station, and is home to the Strike Fighter Wing Pacific squadron, as well as many other high-ranking naval squadrons.
NAS Lemoore is located in King and Fresno counties, in the state of California. It covers a wide expanse of land, and is host to more than 2,000 active soldiers, and many more family members. The base plays home to many A-18 Hornet Strike Fighters, as well as Super Hornets. After the initial surge in production, the Navy continued to station Hornets at NAS Lemoore, and currently there is a total of 175 hornets which are home-based at Lemoore. Apart from fighters, Lemoore is also home to 4 carrier air wings, and many other Navy planes.
