NAS JRB New Orleans

Located in Belle Chase, Louisiana, Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base New Orleans is US Military base. It’s been in operation (under its current name and purpose) since April, 1958. It is home to the 159th Fighter Wing, as well as many other Navy units. The commanding officer of NAS Joint Reserve Base New Orleans is Captain William J. Snyder.

Before NAS JRB New Orleans was commissioned, the area was known as NAS New Orleans. NAS New Orleans was in use until 1957, and covered the area that the University of New Orleans currently covers. Before its switch to JRB, NAS New Orleans served as a major military base during World War 2.

There are 2 different runways at NAS JRB New Orleans. The larger one, 4/22, is 9,999 feet long. The smaller one, 14/32, which is used for smaller aircraft launches, is 6,000 feet long. The station is currently home to 13 different occupants, including the Fourth Marine Aircraft Wing, the Marine Air Group 42, the Navy Operational Support Center New Orleans, and the Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.
