Located around 35 miles north of Albany, the Saratoga Springs Naval Support Unit is the only Navy base in the state of New York. It supports the commands of the Ballston Spa Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit and the Navy Recruiting Region North Customer Service Detachment facility, as well as several others. It is located in a fairly quiet suburb of New York State, and it’s pretty far from any major towns.
As far as physical size, Saratoga Springs Naval Support Unit is pretty average. As population goes, it’s more on the small side. Currently, the Saratoga Springs NSU is home to about 1,700 active duty members, and around 3,200 family members. This number fluctuates regularly, so it’s hard to get an exact figure. Saratoga Springs NSU is fairly well equipped as far as support facilities go. There are 200 houses available for military personnel, with a wait time of around 6 months. There are also several recreational activities available to servicemen and their families, including swimming, tennis, and a nice gym.
