Naval Support Activity Mid-South

Naval Support Activity Mid-South, commonly abbreviated NSA Mid-South, is a Navy base in Millington, Tennessee. Today, NSA Mid-South serves primarily as one of the Navy’s premier human resources centers. The Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, and the Navy Manpower Analysis Center are all headquartered at NSA Mid-South.

The base was built in late 1917. At that time, it was used by the Army Signal Corps as an aviation school. It was used heavily during World War 1, and was named Park Field at the time. In 1920, the US Government purchased the base to use for airmail. It slowly dwindled down until it was only used for storage. When World War 2 started, the base was again used as a training center for pilots. Today, the base has about 7,500 personnel, both enlisted men and officers. It provides essential logistical data and operational support to the commands and activities of the Navy. It is also one of the single largest employers in the state of Tennessee, which has a significant impact on the local economy.
