Naval Station Ingleside

Naval Station Ingleside is located in Ingleside, Texas. It is directly on the northern shore of the Corpus Christi Bay, and is only 12 miles east of the central district of Corpus Christi, Texas. Naval Station Ingleside is part of the Naval Region South, along with its 2 fellow southern bases. The base was commanded in its later years by Captain Leland “BT” D. Taylor.

The base was built in 1988, and is currently closed. The BRAC, or Base Realignment and Closure committee decided that NS Ingleside was nonessential, and therefore closed it down. The base closed down officially on April 30, 2010. The last ship left the base in September, 2009, and the last sailor who was deployed from NS Ingleside returned from his station in Kuwait in March, 2010. The base is now officially shut down, and the land has been returned to the Port of Corpus Christi.
